The Bessemer Gold Medal awarded by the Iron and Steel Institute, (now the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining), to Thomas Turner, 1925, in John Pinches, London box of issue, with framed and glazed certificate inset a copy of the medal with wax seal below, 50mm diameter, 88.9g. Thomas Turner Sc A.R.S.M. F.R.I.C. was the first Professor of Metallurgy in Britain at the University of Birmingham. The Bessemer Gold Medal is the premier award of the Institution of Materials, Minerals and Mining awarded annually for outstanding services to the steel industry, established and endowed by Sir Henry Bessemer.
